The cello teacher at Bexley Cello School
Cello tuition for students of all levels adapting teaching methods for each individual.
Experience of teaching for many years offering lessons in a suitable teaching studio in my own home in Bexley.

About me
My experience and how I approach teaching.
I began learning the cello not far from where I live now. I was fortunate to have been accepted for lessons by an amazing lady, Margaret Napier. Many of her pupils went onto to become accomplished professional players and teachers. I went on to study with Leonard Stehn and I completed a 4-year performer's and cello teaching diploma. I have since played with many different orchestras, most recently for ballet and opera and I have played for musical theatre in the West End. I have recorded on studio albums for many bands and singers of international renown. I have always taught the cello alongside my playing engagements and have gained a lot of experience with beginners to diploma level. I am the cello teacher at the relatively new Music Academy at Trinity School, Shirley on a Saturday. For the last few years I have been invited to teach in the Italian Alps and take part in their chamber music recitals as part of "Le Altre Note" festival and masterclass
music course.
I have organised occasional informal concerts for my pupils in local churches and some of them have performed together in ensembles.
I prepare pupils for examinations both with A.B.R.S.M & Trinity College but I do not like prescriptive teaching. I aim for my students to learn a much wider repertoire and improve their technique as they progress rather than only learning what is on a particular syllabus. This means I can teach every student in an individual way.
During lockdown many of may pupils enjoyed receiving recordings from me so they could play along at home. Although learning online has been successful, nothing can be quite as good as being in the same room. I am now able to offer lessons in my home in a large room with plenty of space to keep a safe distance. I have ample off-street parking and there is free on-street parking. I am less than 15 minutes walk from Albany Park station and close to bus routes B14, 269 and 229.
I am DBS checked and have regular child-safety training. I also have liability insurance cover through the Musicians' Union.

Ann is a fantastic cello teacher that I have had for almost up to 10 years. Having gone to her only at Grade 1 level recommended by a different teacher, I have now reached diploma level cello all thanks to her her detailed and precise teaching style. I fully recommend her as a teacher, as she plays close attention to all aspects of musicianship; allowing me to become a far more independent player. With a holistic view of technique and expression, Ann has certainly helped me become a better cello player. She is the best cello teacher I could ever ask for!

Ann has taken my daughter from 0 to grade 8+ in a very short period of time. Not only bouncing through the grades but exposing her to other forms of music, jazz, classical and contemporary to name but a few and developing her as a musician from soloist to full orchestral team player. We are forever indebted.

Ann has taught my children for nearly up to 10 years, my son now at diploma and my daughter at grade 8. Under her wonderful instruction my children have never stopped being enthusiastic and motivated towards learning the cello. I highly recommend her because of her structured and organised approach towards teaching and meticulous attention to detail in technique and playing style. She has nurtured both my children to become highly independent players capable of tackling any repertoire of their choosing.

Ann is kind, understanding, helpful, patient and engaging. Lessons with her feel natural and you are able to try new techniques and learning points without feeling embarrassed or awkward. Ann does expect you to give your all, and when you deliver she makes you feel great about trying so hard, but most importantly you feel good about what you can achieve. Ann is a fantastic teacher who is friendly, reliable and always gives 100% of herself. I leave each and every lesson buzzing!

Ann is a wonderful teacher with patience and talent always in plentiful supply. As one of her adult learners I always feel challenged to stretch myself yet without feeling judged when I don't come up to scratch. I can highly recommend her teaching to any hopeful student.

Thank you so much for teaching me these last 5 years. You have helped with so much on the cello, from creating a more warm and powerful sound, to building stamina in my fingers, fixing my posture and helping me achieve a vibrato!

Thank you so much for being such an amazing teacher for all these years - I really appreciate the support you've given me both cello and even piano since I shifted my focus to it (to study piano at music college)
